Dissemination of CASBEE in Japan

CASBEE Certification System

Now, CASBEE is broadly used by many Japanese private companies, construction companies, design offices, real-estate developers, etc. as a voluntary-basis evaluation tool for checking the environmental performance of their buildings.

Reflecting the growing needs of a certification of the assessment result by third party, we started the CASBEE Certification System in 2005.

We have certified 23 buildings so far. (as of December 2007)
The detailed information of the certified buildings is shown here.We expect the number will be rapidly growing in the near future.

Introduction by Japanese local governments

Some Japanese local governments have introduced CASBEE system for their environment policy for encouraging green buildings. The governments require the building owners to report the CASBEE's result of their buildings when they put up a new building.

The number of the reports submitted to the local governments is over 1400 (as of March 2007).
The details of the local governments' reporting system are shown in Table 1.

CASBEE Accredited Professional Registration System

CASBEE is based on making assessment as quantitative as possible, but it includes assessment items that are qualitative in nature. As such, it requires a specialized engineer with expertise and knowledge in the comprehensive environmental performance evaluation of buildings. That is why CASBEE Accredited Professional Registration System established.
Those aiming to become professionals must attend an special training course, pass the examination and complete registration. The candidate must be first-class architects to qualify to take the examination.
There are over 1600 professionals in the whole country. (as of November 2007)
