Project Outline

The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse was designed by the renowned Meiji architect, Yorinaka Tsumaki. Although Building No. 1 was partially destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, Building No. 2 remains as it was when first built. In this project, we renovated Building No. 1 as a public facility with a theater and gallery, and Building No. 2 as a commercial facility for private business. The key point here was not merely to “preserve” but also to “maintain” the facility (i.e. to preserve and make active use of it).
