Solar chimney not only provides natural ventilation with sunlight, but is also important elements in façade design.
We have installed two solar chimneys in the east block, to be used as natural ventilation for the classrooms, and as exhaust towers in the case of natural ventilation for the lounge. Air inside the lounge is discharged through a 3m×3m×26m (h) glass shaft by the suction effect of external wind and the stack effect caused by the temperature difference between the top and bottom. VAV's were installed at the connecting part between the lounge and chimney to control air volume.

Solar power generation

A solar power generation system with an output of 10 kW was introduced. Solar power modules were arranged effectively in combination with sunlight blocking devices. They are arranged on the eaves on the south side and in screen formation on the west side.

Simple airflow and natural ventilation

Simple airflow
Natural ventilation combined with exhaust fans were installed inside the pericounter as a measure against cold drafts in winter. Meanwhile, simple airflow fans were arranged inside the blind box in order to discharge heat obtained from sunlight.

Natural ventilation
The fans described above were used as natural air supply vents in interim seasons by opening the dampers only while the fans were turned off.

These cases are described based on assessment results obtained using CASBEE.
CASBEE is a method for rating the environmental performance of buildings using Building Environmental Efficiency (BEE) as an indicator, which is based on the results of separate scores obtained for Q-1~Q-3 (Quality) and LR-1~LR-3 (Load Reduction).
